NYC and DC work/fun trip

How to spend a glorious few days in NYC: 1. Plan a few extra days on the East Coast for a work trip. 2. Take a red-eye and then luck out with a kind flight attendant who lets you have a full row because someone is in your actual seat. Then luck out with a kind hotel desk attendant who lets you check-in early so you can both eat the hotel breakfast and take a refreshing nap. 3. Get the cheapest tickets you can for two new Broadway shows back to back: Operation Mincemeat and then Maybe Happy Endings. Grab pizza in between. Then get a too good to go of pastries to get calories to get back to the hotel. 4. Sleep hard. 5. Wake up and go to a local museum, this time the Bronx Art museum (because it's a setting in of one of your favorite scifi books: The City We Became) and just feel. 6. Go to Central Park to read a book about cartographers in nyc. 7. Decide to do a third Broadway musical because tkts has The Outsiders half off (and make your youngest angry/jealous). It was my favorite, if you were curious. 8. Sit at the NYC city hall park and listen to the guy who feeds the squirrels talk about how much he loves those little guys as they climb up his pants.  9. walk across the Brooklyn Bridge to the NYU lecture I was delighted to attend. 10. And then say goodbye via bus to this lively/living city.

Then I enjoyed a wonderful conference that I helped plan in DC and a lovely dinner at Greg Prince's house before heading back home.
