Pinewood Derby, Jake visit, Sushi and everything that wasn't related to Marri's birthday celebration

We actually had a pretty fun and full week besides all the celebrations related to Marri's birthday. For instance, this happened Tuesday night. Can you spot the difference between the two photos?

It was a bit of pulling and twisting to get there, but he was pretty excited to lose a front top tooth. And then even more excited that the tooth fairy bought up the app he was saving up for on daddy's transformer.

Wednesday was of course, Marri's birthday stuff (see next post) and then Thursday night was the Pinewood Derby Daddy-Daughter Activity Days Party. I was most excited about this event (it may have been my idea), and was in charge of the sticker station and the awards (I photoshopped a cub scout certificate to make it activity days instead plus mini candy bars for all participants, and used a pinterst idea of gold cars on blocks of black wood, plus the grandprize winner (Eliza Poll) got the game Milles Bourne, one of my favorites!) and photos (we gave out photos at the end and did a photo collage on Sunday). Oh my goodness, it turned out better than expected with the other leaders making amazing decorations, getting a track from another ward (which as such a blessing when we found out another cub scout troop decided to use the one in the basement) and doing all the food. The cars were amazing, there was so much creativity and the girls really got into the races The dads enjoyed visiting and watching the races and then when we ran out of time to fill in the awards, I realized that I could have the dads say what they thought the award should read, which was brilliant and fun. I worked on all the photos and got them out to some before everybody left and the rest on Sunday. All in all, a huge success, which was awesome since it was the only time Marri, Sophie, and Cecily overlapped for an activity days activity and it worked so it was on Rob's spring break and they all could go together.

Cecily was bummed to find out her friend Kendall was having her birthday party the same day as the Pinewood Derby, but because she had such a long party, Cecily was able to go to the first hour and the last hour, with the derby sandwiched in-between. She loved it and had a ball at the "fake sleepover."

This is how I found her Friday morning. Notice the placement of her head on the bed, the rest of her body goes down vertically.
At the beginning of our very first Primary Presidency meeting held Friday morning.
Sara came Friday afternoon for what I thought was just for fun. I decided it would be fun to go get sushi ingredients to try out my new sushi maker she gifted me for my birthday. We decided to go with safe canned ingredients of shimp and crab, but they still turned out amazing. Plus we did dessert sushi using mango and strawberries. Mmmm. Way too much fun.

What I didn't know was that Sara was actually there to watch the kids so that Rob could surprise me (saying he "might have a flat tire, could I please come get him") to go on a date. He was pretty pleased with himself for finagling it all (yeah, he knows me way too well). Although I was pretty excited for the homemade sushi, so we instead went out for yogurt at Spoon Me where we told me about his new promotion at work. Hooray!

Then we headed to the DI since we were over here and found some stuff, some great books, and a bigger bike for Cecily to take to Bear Lake. Here is her reaction:

Marri had most of Friday at the Leonardo in Salt Lake City seeing the mummy exhibit with her best friend Brie. Then Brie came over that night, but unfortunately had to leave when she got a migraine. Sad. But they did have much of the day together.

And of course, we had to try out the sushi that evening and watched Rent. Rob is in love with siriachi sauce.

Mmmm!

Saturday we cleaned and worked and then headed up to Logan so that Marri and Rob could do baptisms for the dead in the Logan Temple (see Marri's birthday post) and the rest of us met up with Dad and Jake for dinner and gelatos at Beehive Grill. It was so much fun joking and telling stories about skiing and Grouse Creek (Jake having to get low like a calf to get the calf to come in the horsetrailer). Jetta was pleased to see Jake and Grandpa after they bought her a gumball for her sore toe (I hit in the door) and she told the story over and over afterwards. The food was good and the company better.

Sunday was St. Patrick's Day, so the kids woke up to this:
Jetta was the most delighted.
I also did my first sharing time, that went over quite well and prepared for Marri's women in her life dinner. So all in all, a very busy week that doesn't even take into account all the Marri birthday celebrations....

Good call on the derby! It was a fantastic idea! It was all that was talked about between a few of our friends. The dads especially, sharing tricks and stories. Very nice!
Congrats on the calling...just looking at the picture of you guys reminds me of fun 'late' night meetings and lifelong friendships that are made while serving together. I'm happy for you guys. ;)
